Selenium WebDriver Test Automation is Not for Everyone
Contrary to what you may read on blogs, Quora and LinkedIn, Selenium test automation is not for everyone.
Not every tester can do it.
Not every company can implement it.
Not every application is suitable for it.
A good combination of 3 items, tester skills and knowledge, company readiness for automation and application testability is required for a successful test automation project.
Take any of these 3 items out and the test automation project will probably fail.
1. Not every tester can do it
Many testers cannot do Selenium test automation for various reasons.
They may try using record-and-play or codeless tools which are useful for very small, personal projects but lead nowhere for business projects.
Or they may try writing test automation code while having limited programming knowledge.
The result in this case is basically work that will be thrown out sooner or later, probably sooner.
Test automation projects are only for developers and not for testers.
